I created some illustrations of character portraits in a minimal, geometric style that is also colorful, fun and playful. Use of really clean lines and big areas of flat color with organic shapes has a distinct visual appeal that is unique and stands out.
This style lends itself to working well in any different applications either print or online, the images can scale and reproduce easily. This would work great for print applications like posters, postcards, etc.
I had a concept of creating a set of Hamilton trading cards that could use characters, objects, events, etc. from the show that would be a new kind of merchandise item offered that could allow some interactivity and community building between Hamilton fans.
The cards could be created in packs, and would fun to collect and complete sets, and could be added to with future releases. It could be a way for fans to connect and make friends (trading cards, helping complete their sets) win prizes (TeeRico merch giveaways?)
There is so much detail and depth to the Hamilton world, not only from images and lyrics to the songs, but also all the true American history aspects, that have deeper facts and quotes about them, and also hip hop references and history that influenced the show, as well as the real artists and actors who are part of the life of the show - this could be a fun way to turn all these little interesting tidbits into a physical, collectible object. You could also do things like limited edition signed cards, and maybe use QR codes to unlock and interact with digital assets like songs or videos. I think there is a lot of potential to brainstorm some really fun and unique ideas that would be part of an ongoing series.
The streamlined aspect of the illustrations could work well for things like die-cut stickers, magnets or patches - these could be available for sale as vinyl decals to customize your stuff - and could be included inside card packs as a “prize”
With Hamilton coming to Puerto Rico - it would be great to create more “special edition” merchandise that people could buy to help fund the efforts and contribute to restoration as well as commemorating this special event.
